Those three cities are Pretoria, Cape Town and Bloemfontein. Each city is home to one of the three branches of government. Pretoria is the executive capital, where the president resides. Cape Town is the legislative capital, so it is home to the National Parliament. Bloemfontein is the judicial capital. The highest appeal court in the country, The Supreme Court of Appeal, hears cases there. Pretoria was the capital of South Africa during the reign of the Apartheid regime. Interestingly enough, Cape Town was home to many of the leaders of the anti-Apartheid movement.
Other countries have multiple capitals as well, either officially or unofficially. For example, Sucre is the official constitutional capital of Bolivia, but La Paz is the de facto capital, and it houses more of the country’s government buildings.
